I slid her a sideways\u2014and none too friendly\u2014glance.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat?\u201d she asked with a shrug. \u201cSo Celina likes to play with her food.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAt least Celina didn\u2019t destroy Cadogan House in the process.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOh, yeah? Check this.\u201d She stomped\u2014literally, stomped\u2014back to the kitchen, moved around the island, and pulled out the long, short drawer that held my chocolate stash.<\/p>\n
She reached in and, her eyes still on me, moved a hand through the drawer\u2014which was a treasure trove of chocolate\u2014until she pulled out a long, paper wrapped bar of gourmet hot chocolate. Grinning evilly when she realized her treasure, she held it before her with both hands, then began to rip off one corner of the package.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s one of my favorite kind,\u201d I warned her.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh, is it?\u201d she asked then used her teeth to snap off a giant corner of the bar.<\/p>\n
\u201cMallory. That\u2019s just hateful.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes, a woman needs to hate,\u201d was what I thought she said over a mouthful of 73% dark chocolate that I\u2019d only been able to find at a tiny shop near U. of C. On the other hand, I\u2019d done without for this long . . .<\/p>\n
\u201cFine,\u201d I said, crossing my arms over my chest. If we were going to fight like adolescent sisters, might as well go the distance. \u201cEat it. Eat the whole thing while I\u2019m standing here.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMaybe I\u201d\u2014she raised the back of her free hand and chewed a mouthful of chocolate. \u201cMaybe I will,\u201d she finally got out.<\/p>\n
