This week, I’ve asked some amazing urban fantasy and paranormal romance authors to participate in Show Your Work week and share their processes with you. \u00a0Today, please welcome Lucienne Diver!<\/p>\n

\"SYW_author\"<\/p>\n

Lucienne Diver\u00a0is the author of the popular\u00a0Vamped<\/em>\u00a0series of young adult novels (think\u00a0Clueless<\/em>\u00a0meets\u00a0Buffy the Vampire Slayer<\/em>).\u00a0 School Library Journal calls the first book, \u201ca lighthearted, action-packed, vampire romance story following in the vein of Julie Kenner\u2019s \u201cGood Ghouls\u201d (Berkley), Marlene Perez\u2019s \u201cDead\u201d (Harcourt), and Rachel Caine\u2019s \u201cThe Morganville Vampires\u201d (Signet) series.\u201d\u00a0VOYA has suggested that the books \u201cwill attract even reluctant readers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her short stories have been included in the\u00a0Strip-Mauled<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Fangs for the Mammaries<\/em>\u00a0anthologies edited by Esther Friesner (Baen Books), and her essay on abuse is included in the upcoming anthology\u00a0Dear Bully: 70 Authors Tell Their Stories<\/em>(HarperTeen).\u00a0 2011 saw the launch of\u00a0Bad Blood<\/em>, the first novel in her\u00a0Latter-Day Olympians<\/em>\u00a0series of contemporary fantasy, set in LA and featuring a heroine who can, quite literally, stop men in their tracks.\u00a0Long and Short Reviews gave it her favorite pull-quote of all times,\u00a0“Bad Blood<\/em>\u00a0is a delightful urban fantasy, a clever mix of Janet Evanovich and Rick Riordan, and a true Lucienne Diver original.” She can now die happy, though maybe not just yet.<\/p>\n

\"SYW_process\"<\/p>\n

The Latter-Day Olympians series is, as Long and Short Reviews put it, \u201ca clever mix of Janet Evanovich and Rick Riordan\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0At least, I hope it\u2019s clever.\u00a0\u00a0It certainly is fun to write and plays right into my wheelhouse.<\/p>\n

I took Latin for five years in junior high and high school and then was an anthropology and writing double-major in college, so when the idea for the Latter-Day Olympians struck me like a lightning bolt from Mount Olympus, I was thrilled to be able to use a good part of what I\u2019d learned.\u00a0\u00a0It was a great excuse to revisit books I already owned and to download new texts in which to lose myself.<\/p>\n

But by far the best research was what I did on-site.\u00a0\u00a0Since the series spans L.A. (BAD BLOOD), San Francisco (CRAZY IN THE BLOOD) and Greece itself (RISE OF THE BLOOD), you can imagine just how amazing this was.<\/p>\n

\"SYW_books\"Latter Day Olympians Series \/\u00a0BAD BLOOD, Book 1:<\/strong>\u00a0Tori Karacis is a little more than your average private eye.Among other things, her family line may or may not trace back to a drunken liaison between the god Pan and one of the immortal gorgons. It may be just coincidence that her glance can literally stop men in their tracks, or that her family sports enough irregularities to keep the Rialto Bros. Circus in business.\u00a0Then again, maybe not.<\/p>\n

Vamped Series \/ VAMPEd, Book 1:\u00a0<\/strong>Gina Covello has a problem. Waking up a dead is just the beginning.\u00a0 There’s very little she can’t put up with for the sake of eternal youth and beauty.\u00a0 Blood-sucking and pointy stick phobias seem a small price to pay.\u00a0 But she draws the line when local vampire vixen Mellisande gets designs on her hot new boyfriend with his prophecied powers and hatches a plot to turn all of Gina\u2019s fellow students into an undead army to be used to overthrow the vampire council.<\/p>\n

Hey, if anyone’s going to create an undead entourage, it should be Gina!\u00a0 Now she must unselfishly save her classmates from fashion disaster and her own fanged fate.<\/p>\n
