It’s two months until the release of TWICE BITTEN, and I’ve got an ARC in hand. (Well, Scout has an ARC in hand, anyway). That means it’s contest time!

To enter the TWICE BITTEN ARC contest, simply leave a comment and let me know how you’re buying most of your books these days–paper or e-books. On May 15, 2010, I’ll pick a winner, and I’ll send out the ARC that day!

  • Hi Chloe – well, it depends – hardback, paperback and e-book all are in my mix when I purchase…I travel a lot so ebooks and paperbacks work better for that…however, of course I want the book soonest and if hardback is the only way – then that's what I do!

  • I really want to win this ARC! if not I'll try to wait patiently until July. I think I've been buying ebooks exclusively since last summer. I use Kindle for iPhone, Barnes and Noble ereader and Stanza so that I can read books in all formats. I love it.

  • I would love to win. Can't wait for the new book to be released.

    I mainly buy my books at barnes and noble so I can get my hands on them immediately. I have purchased a few ebooks to read on my ipod touch, but I like having a hard copy I can hold in my hands especially of my favorite series. But free ebooks have been great to expose me to new authors which has lead me to look for author books by the author in a paper version.

    I buy all the books that I get in paper form, I was never a fan for e-books. I usually buy books whenever I'm in a bookstore, which is usually all the time. πŸ˜› Can't get enough of books, especailly the great ones. πŸ™‚

Oh, I know I should be thinking "greener" but you just can't get the same experience from a piece of electronic plastic! For me, the overall enjoyment of a good story includes the smell of the paper, the whisper of the pages,and the actual feeling of the book in my hands!

  • I spend far too much time on my computer but still only buy paper books (a smell and touch thing I'm trying to get over before the whole flat is buried under books).

  • I purchase the books for my kindle so that I may take them with me when I travel. When I really like the book, I then purchase the hard copy. Nothing really replaces the feeling of holding a book you love in your hands. I therefore have your books on my kindle and on my bookshelves.

  • I love the series. I was hooked from book one. I read books in paper and electronic format. I do, however, have a tendency to purchase the ebook versions of new books because I cannot wait for the stores to open to get them. They usually get delivered at midnight and I can get up early to read before work. I usually get a hard copy later to reread before the next new book is released.

  • I have been buying more ebooks than paper lately. I read a lot and if I finish one book I'm ready for the next one – so easy to do when all I have to do is download anytime day or night. I use my 13" laptop – it's light, easy to carry around. I can access, purchase and read from B&N (lots of free books there too) to a huge variety of ebook publishers on the web – lots of books (good and bad) that I would never find in a bookstore with their limited space. I love ebooks, I love paper too, but ebooks are so easy to obtain anytime. I guess my gripe with ebooks would be the cost of some bestseller one being the same price as paper – should be cheaper.

  • I would love to win an ARC of this book. I don't know if I can wait until July to read it! In answer to your question, I buy about half my books as paperbacks and half as ebooks. Whichever is more convenient at the time.

  • I can hardly wait for the release of Twice Bitten!!! I'm still an old-fashioned reader – always buy my books in paper format instead of ebooks. I know that ebooks are probably the future of publishing and reading but I cannot seem to get as comfy while reading an ebook infront of my computer as I am when I can curl up against a million sofa cushions with a cup of hot chocolate and a paper copy of my favorite book.

  • These days I'm buying both paper and electronic. I would say 50/50. I purchase most of my books for my kindle but there are some that are not available in electronic format. In addition, there are some books that I buy in both formats. For example, I buy both forms of the Chicagoland Vampires series because I started out with paper but I find it more convenient to carry around my Kindle but I still like to have the complete collection in paper. There are a couple of other authors that I buy both formats for: Patricia Briggs, and Ilona Andrews. In addition, I buy a lot of young adult books for my nieces in paper format because they don't have a kindle but I always end up reading them myself as well. LOL.
    I can't wait for Twice Bitten and I really hope to win the ARC. Thanks.

  • Audiobook! Seriously, they have got to produce Merit on audio. Paper when in doubt.

  • I only buy paper books. But I do download free books and samples for Kindle for my iPhone. I just rarely ever read them. It's good to know that they're there in case I'm ever stuck somewhere without a physical book.

  • I work all day in front of a computer. While I work at home I listen to audio books but when I have finished I like to get away from the computer and fondle a dead tree!
    But I do believe that e-books are the future, at least for popular fiction, so I am trying to re-educate myself.

    Anyway, um, I prefer real books. There's just an intimate feeling of holding the book in front of you. And I love anxiously flipping the pages. I read ebooks for a while and I realised holding the actual book is quite different compared to reading it off a screen. So yeah. Paper for me. ^_^

  • I realized that way up near the top I entered the contest and in my excitement I forgot to answer the question. Oops! I read print books until I save up for an iPad and then I will switch and only buy my absolute keepers for the bookshelf.

    It's hassle free, environmental friendly and provides instant access/gratification.

    For an international reader like myself, getting my hands on new releases (paperbacks/hardcovers) can be a real pain. Most bookstores in my country either don't carry UF/PNR books or sells them at an exorbitant price.

    I own a Kindle and found that there is no ebook sale for Twice Bitten on Amazon.

    Please Chloe, could you get the Publishers to release the ebook version of Twice Bitten? (or..you can always award me with the ARC "wink wink") I follow you on:

  • Hello Chloe – I just discovered the Chicagoland Vampire books and absolutely love them! Go Merit! I just finished Friday Night Bites today and I'm already bemoaning the fact that I have to wait 2 whole months before I can once again be taken into Merit's world. I always buy the actual books–I can't imagine not being able to savor the experience of holding the book, turning it's pages and then proudly adding it to my bookshelf once I've finished. I hope this series will continue for a long time. Thanks for making life a lot more bearable with such great reads!

  • I do both hard copy books and e-books. I tend to get the e-books so I can read on the release date and buy the hard copy once it goes paperback, but I only buy hard copy for a few authors…. one of those being you.

    I have TB release date on my FB page as an event and have invited my book friends to join in on the fun!

As I live in Dubai I cant buy your books in the book stores and have to wait for two weeks (minimum) for your books to arrive by post so I try to buy the ebook but ebooks are not always sold to the UAE either as there are restrictions. So when your book comes out I will have already ordered the book and will be going to 5 different ebook websites to try and get the book! Covering all the bases, It’s a lot of work but worth it! I put a picture up on your facebook page to see. I have a few others if you want them)

  • I buy Both paper and e-book. I buy from Amazon as you cant get your books in Dubai. Amazon.co.uk takes 2 weeks min, and Amazon.com takes a month (when i cant get it from Amazon.co.uk). The ebooks i get if i can as not all e-book websites ( I have about 5 or 6 i try, and sometimes do sell to the UAE) will sell to the UAE. So it usually takes me a while to get to read a newly released book. But your books are always worth the wait!!!

  • I buy mostly paper books. There's just something magical to me about being able to hold the book in my hands. That being said, I love my Sony eReader. If I have to have a book immediately I might buy the ebook version, but typically I only do this when the book is on sale. I have a hard time spending the same amount on an ebook as the paperback is worth.

  • Chloe, I'm anxiously anticipating the new twice bitten book. My sister introduced me to the series, and I've enjoyed the first 2 books. I can't wait to see where you take the story- I was a little disappointed in the development of Mallory's character and how much more important she seems to be than her boyfriend, who got kicked out of the order for the most trivial reason- however Merit is the star and I heart Merit!! It's been a while since I bought some books though. My bookshelf stays full. I borrow 80% of the books I read, but i've been hinting since last year that i want a Kindle. I want a Kindle since the benefits are: no trees have to die, it doesn't take up any room on my bookshelf, and doesn't way down my purse on the subway, no one has to know what I'm reading,and with Ipad and other similar products out there the price will soon be dropping. I've seen how an e-book looks on a kindle so it's not a problem for me, and book art can always be incorporated in a e*book. So I don't think i will be losing much other than the experience of turning pages.

  • Any chance of getting Twice Bitten for the Nook (Barnes and Noble eBook)? I already have both Some Girls Bite and Friday Night Bites on the Nook, but Twice Bitten doesn't seem to be available for pre-order yet. πŸ™
