I tend to write what I think of as “cinematically” — the book tends to play in my head like a little movie, and I write down what I “see.”
Fantasy author Sam Sykes made a really interesting point today on Twitter:
I tend to think of a lot of prose in terms of cinema. Descriptions can be broken down into far shots, near shots, establishing shots, etc.

Mind totally blown. I’ve never really thought about the “depth” of the shot before. I’m going to have to reevaluate about how I describe things visually.
