I posted this last night on the Meritverse, and wanted to share it here, as well, for those of you who aren’t over there discussing and making predictions:
HB is a HARD book. It’s a challenging book. I put you gals to the test. (Not on purpose, but because that’s where the story went.) But I am the first to admit that it’s not an easy ending.
I am so moved that all of you (or your spouse, Drew!) have been moved by HARD BITTEN. So I’m sending along more hugs.
WHY did the book end that way??? He’s coming back, right?
yeah Chloe…i too would like to know why. i’m totally speechless wt the ending n i’m totally loving the series. absolutely fantastic!
He has to, I just don’t see without that twist how it could go on if he doenst. And What say you the baby hints gabriell used to always send out to merit?
I cried while i was reading it so i hope with all my hart that he’ll come back… they were my favoutite fiction couple :((
I have faith in you, and in what will happen in Drink Deep!:)
I don’t see how he can come back given the way he went out. I read to have fun….now I’m so sad 🙁
My heart is still screaming!
I’ll be honest and say I really just want to pretend that I didn’t read the ending! I cried! You built it up so nicely and I was so excited… and then poof! *literally*
I guess I’ll have to trust that things turn around in the next book! 🙂
The book was amazing. I won’t say I didn’t cry, because I did…like a baby…until there was not the tiniest bit of Kleenex left in my home. At least none that was in any way tear or snot-free 😉
Your writing is just so good. I really liked the first 3 books. But somehow your writing must have evolved because the story in this book becomes way more real. Everyone has such a unique character. I love Merit; so strong and funny and positive, but not without making mistakes or having to grow to be able to rise to the challenges. The whole book was just breathtaking. Oh and the food. Your books always make me want to eat ^^
Thank you so much for writing!
Much love and thank you for the hug, I needed a big one!
PS: I WANT HIM BACK NOW 😉
He has to come back… he HAS to… I am in love with this series… with these characters.. Ethan mamakes this series what it is just as much as Merit. It wont be the same if he doesn’t come back. So please for my sanity and everyone else’s Bring him back….
Chloe with all respect, a Hard book for me is an understatement, I`m still heartbroken….*snif* *snif*
Still crying I love Ethan and I don’t know if I could see Merit with anyone else… Great book
Still crying I love Ethan and always will, I don’t think I can read Merit with anyone else.
I trust you. I spent the 2 hours last night just saying “She killed him” over and over. My husband was completely confused until he saw my e-reader next to me. He knew that I had spent all evening reading the book and just said “Ahhh, your book!” I’m less distraught than I might have been if I didn’t believe that you will be my literary Tim Gunn and “Make it work!”
He HAS to come back! Merit with some other guy just doesn’t seem right.
well since he was the reason I read this series,,,guess I don’t need to read it anymore. I haven’t read HB, but I’ve already imagined what must happen, and I really don’t want to read it. I’ll wait to see what the reviews are for the next book, then maybe I’ll continue, I’m really disappointed. I’ve loved this series & like being emotionally invested… BUT, I want to be entertained, not devastated!! What’s that saying….”Trust is earned”. So I’ll wait and see before I continue.
I cried sooooo hard last night. I am telling myself it’s not the end yet. I wrote a review for Paranormal Kiss. Y’all should check it out: http://paranormalkiss.webs.com/
OMG—I am hurting—tears REALLY?????
Not loving the ending at all! Won’t give up but hoping there is a silver lining soon. Of course if this is Urban Fantasy then there is no guarantee of a HEA.
I haven’t been able to read this book yet as its not available in the UK until next Thursday and I’m already distraught from reading everyone’s comments!!
Thank you to everyone who’s commented and still not spilled the beans on what the final page actually holds!
I’ve tortured myself for the last month or so over what the ending might be and held onto the hope that you, Chloe, will put it right in Drink Deep – whilst i still don’t know what’s happened, I have to trust that you’ll make everything OK, but the comments are right – November is a long time to wait!
If you have any influence with your publishers – please, please try to get them to agree a universal release date – its killing us over here in the UK, being teased but not being able to read the book to find out what’s going on!!
You’re right – The ending was really hard. I finished the book half an hour ago, and I’m still crying. So I blame you for the mascara streaks. But it was an amazing ending – because the impossible happened, it shocked everyone to the core, and I doubt anyone would forget this book quickly. I hate to sound likek the average over obsessed reader, but please, please, please (with sugar and cream cheese and bacon on top) let him come back?!
A typically over obsessed reader
oh, and I’m having to avoid Meritverse because I can’t go near the spoilers !!!
It’s so frustrating!!!!
You break my heart once more…I was in such shock that I turned the page waiting for Merit to fall of her bed because it had to have been a bad dream or for Catcher to work his yu yu magic and fix everything. Is there any way we can move the release of the new book to lets say tomorrow? I need to know what happens!! I am still in shock
I haven’t gotten it yet and now you make me want it right this minute. My copy is in the mail but it takes so long.
I still can’t believe it! My God, it is really sad what just happened
I’ll trust you but OMG you made me cry ME I do not cry
Not cool, Chloe. Not cool.
WHY? just, …why?
I just discovered the CV series and read all 4 books in 4 days. I am heartbroken by what happened to Ethan but I have faith in you. The stories so far have been well written and engaging, the characters well developed and intriguing so I beg of you, please don’t bring him back to life… Anything but ghosts and resurrections… I’d rather see a twin or an alter ego of him than have him come back to life thru some incantations or whatnot… Looking forward to November.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed Chloe but I reallyyyyy reallyyyyy need our green eyed sexiness back (on my knees here) PLEASEEEEEEE!!! November is sooooo far away!!! OHHH and big hugs for all the guys reading these books more power to you because hands down there the best!!! 😉 xoxo
I cried. How can you make me hate some one, then make me like them begrudgingly, hate them again and then love them and THEN you off them?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!! Gasp No! I almost put it down…ok I put it down and almost didn’t pick it back up! I get waaaaaay too emotionally attached to characters, especially him. I liked him before Merit did! You should have a disclaimer for over emotional readers!!!!!!!! I’m so sad:( Please tell me that the voice in her dream that sounded like it was in the room and the “eyes” premonition all mean something redemptive, cause I may not get over this, ever. I love the series, but man you are killing me!
i LOVED it…..Great JOB!!! yes, it was sad and heart wrenching but not for one second do i believe he won’t be back. I love that u had the guts to do that….not many authors do and it makes the book that much better!
the worse part was knowing something MAJOR was going to happen and trying to figure out what it was.
again….great job! u did NOT disappoint!
I just want him back. No alter ego. Completely happy with however u spin it just him,,,somehow, ghost, resurrection. Whatever you see fit. I have gotten so many people hooked on this series. Ignoring my text… To say the least ,they are not happy. How was I supposed to Know. I am dealing with my on emotional knockout. *Breath*lol
OK< realize I am obsessing currently. How is one expected to do otherwise, with this ending.. Ghost would not be favorable, to obvious. The lore of Merit and our Green eyed man has been developed on many levels. With that said I am more lost than before. Please don't let us down, staying away from chocolate for a couple days. Will save the recipe though, Thanks.
My uncle lives in USA so I have connections.. OMG…I cant understand this end..he needs to come back, it wont be the same without Ethan. She can’t be with someone else..if he’s not in the next book I don’t see the point in reeding it..I’m so sad.Ithink that a book needs a happy ending , because in the real life relationships don’t end with a happily ever after,This is disturbing, but I still have faith ,i know you can make it right, you are an exelent writer and i enjoy so much these books..just show us a prhase of ethan in drink deep, prove us that he’s not dead.give us a reason to keep reading..
Nothing new can be said at this point but I still have to say, “Wow!” I love Urban Fantasy but I’m starting to worry about my but I’m starting to worry about loving a genre where there is no guarantee of a happily ever after. All I can say is that I hope Drink Deep resolves this and it isn’t dragged out. A well written death scene is all well and good but when it’s the main boy character … I just pray that we see Ethan again and not just as a ghost who can’t really be there for Merit. I love Ethan and he deserves his HEA just as much as Merit deserves hers. November please come quickly and make this better!
Ich liiiiiiiieeeebe die Serie über ALLES! Aber dieses Ende?! WELTUNTERGANGSSTIMMUNG!
My hat goes off to you Chloe for being such a damn good writer!!! So good, that you have really brought out alot of emotions in your readers. I for one can say that I was really shocked and sad at the ending of Hard Bitten. With that said, I have complete faith in you that things will be ok. Looking forward to Drink Deep in November.
Once again damn good writing. I love it when an author can throw you totally off course 🙂
